What I would love to see is some gui feature that automatically arranges
  footage (for linear editing) and is manually editable by dragging and
dropping.

I envision something like the 'smooth' bar after you view a YouTube
video. So it would be an interface you can view and and cut scenes
quickly. Something you now do with:

- - Open files (insert resources only)
- - Drag file into viewer
- - [   ]  i   (in point, out point, to clip)


I would like to do some raw (or quickediting in this way):

- - Load all resources
- - Line these resources up (scene detection, every scene one frame),
automatically
- - Now a user can do this manually, throw away not usefull stuff, align
'takes' vertically.
- - Clicking on a scene will load it in the viewer the begin and end
points will result in some raw cutting
