Hi Herman,
thanks for the feedback but I've set the ratio to 16:9 in the format
dialogue. However the video is still scaled in x direction to 4:3. As I
said the actual composer window shows the three safety frames in 16:9
but any video I load is scaled to 4:3 which leaves black areas to the
left and right.

Cinelerra doesn't automatically change the display according to the
aspect ratio in the individual files. You have to set the aspect ratio
for the whole project in the Format dialog. Set it to 16:9 there, and
the display will be fine. :-)
