This is the perfect solution.  I found a new DCR-TRV310 on ebay that had a 
defective LCD screen.  At least it was sold as new and it doesn't show any 
wear or scuff marks.  I had to buy a power adapter and data cable but for less 
than 100 USD I got the perfect setup.  The captures look great!
