I would bet a bad clock crystal.
BTW, some of the ntp code won't kick in to correct time if there isn't a quorum, but I'm willing to bet your clock is too bad for even NTP to fix. One thing to check, is that router in a closet with cooling issues? Heat can cause the clock crystal to become erratic sometimes. -----Original Message----- From: Mack McBride [mailto:mack.mcbr...@viawest.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 29, 2010 7:32 PM To: Peter Rathlev; Matthew Huff Cc: 'cisco-nsp@puck.nether.net' Subject: RE: [c-nsp] NTP synchronization problems C2801 I would try using the same IOS version as the working one and see if it synchronizes (understand that might not be possible), that would tell you if it is hardware or software. A bad clock crystal or capacitor will definitely cause problems but it could just be software. That should make them more stable. Though I tend to agree with the gist of that, I think the arguments are irrelevant to my problem. The two sources are reachable (377 all the time) and they agree to within acceptable error. Thus I don't need a quorum. (I don't care about the failure scenario here.) If both devices were the same I would just shrug and think the C2801 wasn't up to the job. But I have one device with no problems and another acting up.
