MRTG is a free utility that can monitor anything that you can access using
SNMP. If you have your internet connection coming in through a router, you
can simply enable SNMP on that router and then monitor that serial interface
for its bandwidth. You will be able to see graphical stats for daily,
weekly and monthly usage. I have found that setting this up on a UNIX box
is the easiest approach although NT is also supported. You can get really
creative with this and monitor just about everything, even CPU temperature.
