A WINS server on each subnet??? Eh??? Try 2 WINS servers (1 primary, 1 
secondary) per 10,000 users. That is the recommended number.

Bac - use the ip helper address on your router to forward the netbios 
broadcasts. Look it up on the documentation CD or at the documentation page 
on www.cisco.com. The syntax is simple, and it is in common practice 
everywhere. Also read up on how MS clients perform Domain authentication, 
netbios name registration/resolution, and netbios session establishment. 
This is all available (including Network Monitor traces) on Microsoft 
Technet.

LMHOSTS files are fine for your lab, but they are absolutely outlawed in an 
enterprise. Don't even bother...
