Yeah, but I don't think that'll make you real happy, cuz...

In Real Life, you're gonna see the default escape char, so
get used to sending ^^x  or ^^^^x (or however many 
control-shift-6 chars you need) to hit the right router.

If you change the escape char, the next guy up will be 
expecting the default and will have exactly the problem
which you're trying to avoid.
