MHO and ready to be fired if I'm wrong:
c3640 can support async interfaces (modems card or async cards with
octopus cable), I'm not sure but I think up to 128. I doesn't matter if
physically you have them or not, they logically exists and are lines 1 to
128.
Aux port corresponds to line 129 and line 130 to 134.
Here I include for you the show line and sh hard of one of my routers.
You'll se I don't have the async ports for some lines and it says I don't
have hw. Then the lines that I do have, correspond with the slot I have
the modems card in.
