Daniel,
If you have the cables with 9 pin at the end you won't need a converter. I
am using a few IBM 8228 hubs in my lab.
1. Connect the token ring port to the Mau ports 1 thru 8
2. Place a ring-speed either 16 or 4
3. Issue a no shut
4. %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface TokenRing0, changed state to initializing
5. TokenRing0 is up, line protocol is up
