Howard, I'm glad to hear you are doing well.

However, I thought you were a Nortel Guy (maybe Lucent) and HSRP
is a Cisco proprietary protocol.  :)  Well, at least we know it will keep
working.  Just don't upgrade IOS without extensive research on known
issues.  You don't want to end up with a deferred release in that thing.

I guess the technology works something like this, when a keepalive is
missed the pacemaker assumes the MAC address of your heart and
all is well.  When the keepalives return, the pacemaker demotes itself
to standby mode again.

Seriously though, take it easy and get well!
