i currently have a 6506 with a 48 port 10/100 blade and a 8 port gigabit
blade. connected via gigabit i have 3548xls and connected
to the 48port i have a IBM router that has a ethernet (10) and a TR(16)
interface. the ethernet network is 10.0.12.0 the token ring is
10.0.8.0.

Problems:

  1) today i connect to one of the 3548s only to see messages of the
interfaces "flapping" going up and down like 10 times per minuit. this
happens for only some of the ports. why i dont know. also one of the
ports shows many collisions. this is odd to me because there is
only a workstation connected to it and it doesnt transfer much data.
why the collisions? the only idea i have is bad cable or NIC.

2) the router connected to the 6506 shows ~3 million collisions per
day. i dont know why. the only thing i can think of is i had
autonegotition set. i set the speed of the port to 10mb and still
am recieving colisions. i had to leave so i could see if it was
as many.

3) from the token ring network i am able to ping all interfaces on the
router and all devices on the ethernet except for the 6506 and the 3548
s. why is this. i cant ping any devices on the token ring from the
switches either. i can ping them from a workstation though. also
the 6506 returns error=0 when i try to ping a TR station.

if anyone has any ideas about these problems i would appreciate it.
