I posed this question to the group recently, and I'm still a little confused
about it. Here is the situation:

X --------A
          |
          |
          B ------- D ------- [more hosts]
          |
          |
Y --------C

X and Y are hosts, and AB, BC, and BD are trunks with pruning disabled. My
question originally was if X sends to Y, will that transmission also be
copied onto BD even though it is unnecessary. I was told the answer was no,
because B would realize by looking in its CAM table that Y does not live out
that way and wouldn't send it on the trunk.

If that's the case, then why do we have pruning in the first place? It
seems to me that pruning is the very mechanism by which we stop that sort of
thing from happening, and the configuration guide I'm reading seems to
suggest the same thing.

Basically, for some reason I'm having trouble grasping this simple concept.
Perhaps it's because it's VERY late and I have insomnia...ARG!!! Perhaps
it's because the list has been down most of the day and I'm having
withdrawal symptoms.

Regardless, could someone please clarify this for me?

Thanks, as always!
