I've gotten every cert I own by self-study, not one course. Mostly by hands
on experience, I'm a "get it for having done it" kinda guy. Every cert has
applied to my current position at the time; I'm a consultant so my position
tends to change every 3-6 months. But I tend to learn voraciously so it's
not a big deal. Basically when I look for a new contract I look for
something that overlaps my current skill set but introduces something new
that I haven't learnt yet and I go after it. Currently I;m BSCN away from
CCNP and am taking CNX-A next week.
