The only paper clips I have are those sucky plastic kind.

Fry's ( two different stores ) did not have the PLLC extractors. Jameco
carries them. But to make it worth your while you need buy a minimum of
other stuff. Searches on several electronics shops pages revealed the device
at prices above 20 bucks. Jameco was 4 bucks. Fry's peg price was about 6
bucks, if memory serves.

BTW the documentation that comes with the new proms is excellent.

 maybe even use two diagonally and pop out  as sometimes with one you can
bend the pins as it comes out  on an angle

(A paper clip slightly bent and inserted in the groove adjacent to the
corner.  Pry from under the chip.  Note the chamfered corner on the socket
and the chip, line up accordingly.)
