That is illogical.  The switch shouldn't care if it's a DB9 or DB25 on the 
other end of the cable.  Connect to the console port and Power cycle the 
switch.  If you see Gibberish, the Baud Rate is wrong.  9600 is the default, 
but depending on the config-register, it could be 9600,4800,2400, or 1200. 
(Other comm settings are 8,none,1)

i got a catalyst 1200 .
it cannot be configured via the
db-9 to RJ45 cable.
the documentation says that i have to use the db25 to RJ45 cable.
but i do not have a second COM Port with an RS232 interface.
any advice ?
