When we started purchasing 6509's our Cisco NSA Engineer advised us not to
use the integrated IOS because there are some major bugs that are associated
with it that have not been addressed. Now this was a couple of months ago,
so maybe these issues have been addressed, but I would do some investigating
first. If you are familiar with the Cat OS then I would go in that
direction and wait for the integrated IOS to become more stable. Just my 2
cents.

Subject: CatOS or IOS?

Hi Folks,

I have recently purchased a Catalyst 6509 to replace
one of my Catalyst 5000's. I've noticed that you have
the choice to run CatOS 5.x as usual or convert the
whole switch over to IOS 12.x. I've also been buying
some of the new Catalyst 3548-XL's and they too
run the IOS 12.x image's. My question to the group
is: what would be the advantages/disadvantages of
either software?

Thanks,
