Well, be careful. RSM infers the 5000 series, in which
case you'd be correct; the Catalyst 5000 series Sups only
run the CatOS.
On the 6000 series, though, you can run "Native IOS" mode
on the whole box; both the Supervisors (the "switching"
side) and the MSFCs (the "routers"). There are pros and
cons to both approaches, I chose to stick with the
CatOS/IOS blend on my new 6509 in order to stick with
what's familiar, but one day I'm sure IOS will be the
only choice.
