Hi,
You have to create a VTP domain first before you can create VLAN:
set vtp domain test-domain
The default VTP domain mode is server, you might want to change it to
other, refer to the CCO for more info on VTP domain. In short:
VTP server - can create VLAN, listen to VTP announcement from other
servers, for VLAN info, VLAN created here propagate to other servers and client
VTP client - cannot create VLAN, listen to VTP servers for VLAN info
VTP transparent - can create VLAN, pass along VTP message, VLAN created
here only applied the this switch.
In a layer 2 multi switch setup, you would normally create one or two (as
backup) VTP server(s), and let the rest be VTP clients, then you will do
all your VLAN creation, modification and deletion on the VTP servers. Note
that port assignment to VLAN still have to be done from each individual
switch. Or you can use the GUI.
Hope this help.
Thanks.
