The 2901 is a fixed config switch. The modules are screwed in. I would not
be surprised if you could remove a module and substitute another. Has anyone
tried? The modules in mine obviously have had the removal levers eliminated.
They also have a line of small holes drilled across the top. (cooling?)  
If budget is an issue then the 2901 is less expensive. It has the CatOS.
