There are a couple of things this could be:

1: config-register on router  (most likely)
2: Hyperterminal settings on PC (probably not if you tried multiple PC's)

It is probably the config-register on the router.  Search CCO for 1700
password recovery and use the techniques to change your config-register back
to its default which is probably 0x2102.

Check the settings on your PC terminal emulator.  They should be set to 8
bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and 9600 baud.
