Took CCIE today. It was much easier than I expected. Not to say that there 
is not a lot of material on the test. Here is 50 or so questions that I 
recommend you know the answers to ;) I would love to hear about any specific 
questions that anyone else has come across in thier written experience. 
Would also to be curios to know the answers to questions 7, 17, 22, 23, 26, 
36 and 39.

1.What types of compression can you use over HDLC?
2. Configuration registers retain settings for what?
3 What is NNI?
4 Best description of a hold down timer – it’s purpose?
5. What is the IP multicast address range?
6. What can you do to keep from having to fully mesh IBGP?
7. Register is set to 0x102 what will that do?
8. Whats an Ethernet jam signal?
9. What is the result of sending a loop up signal to the DSU/CSU?
10. When converting a serial line between to routers to X.25 what needs to 
be done?
11. LANE operates at what layer of the OSI?
12. What does the gateway of last resort do?
13. How would you set the gateway of last resort?
14. What does setting the default gateway do?
15. How do you set the default gateway?
16. IPXWAN is most similar to what?
17. Injecting 0.0.0.0 into OSPF AS’s causes what to happen?
18. Fast Link Pulse is what?
19. Fast-Ether channel has one down side what is it? (Example choices 
given…no fault tolerance, not full duplex, no load balancing?)
20. What is a proxy explorer?

do?)
22. What is Erlang B?
23. If a 56k line connects remote sites and there are 2000 IPX services on a

25. Question involving DecNet syntax to enable a designated router?
26. What is meant by TCP “Slow Start”?
27. Which statement best describes “Counting to Infinity”?
28. What is the field type of an 802.3 frame?
29. How does a router handle GNS requests from a client?
30. TACACS+ has what advantages over TACACS?
31. LANE’s equivalent to an ARP request is handled how?
32. If TCP loses a segment during transmission how is it handled?

34. When enabling OSPF the proper syntax is route OSPF ****? (Process ID or

36. If you issue the write erase command and then look into the flash and 
the IOS is still in there with a “.d” next to it what must you do to get rid 
of it?
37. What does the “squeeze” command do?
38. Question involving custom queuing in which an excerpt from a router is 
given. The objective is to pick the statement that best describes what that 
excerpt does.
39. Question in which you are given a chart and you must select the correct 
ACK and SEQ numbers. Chart looks like this:

40. Given a diagram of 2 routers using SRB with three hosts and asked what

asked about 4 times just slightly modified each time.
41. 2 questions involved comparing Distance vector to link state.
42. If an Access list is applied to an outbound interface and you don’t want 
host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx accessing telnet services on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx which 
statement will satisfy the requirements of the question? (4 or 5 access list 
syntax sensitive answers are given pick 1)
43. Of the five possible answers which access list will prevent Ethernet 
segment A from accessing token ring segment B but allow token ring segment B 
to access Ethernet segment A?
44. What is the square root 192.65.176.3 /24 divided by Pi? (Just kidding)
45. There is a question involving an OSPF diagram with 3 areas, area 0 is 
located on the far right then two more areas to it’s left what could you do 
to fix it? (So that all areas would be able to connect to area 0)
46. Know the normal reasons why a line up protocol down happens.
47. What’s a LES responsible for?
48. What’s a LECS responsible for?
