Thanks all for the reply. Peter, I see your point about the simplicity
thing. Unfortunately in our environment users are all over the building
using different pc's all of the time and still need to be seperated by their
respected vlans. So on a port-by port basis it just doesn't cut the
cheesecake for us vlan wise. I must say, we have several Mac's that you
can't use the URT with, so it has been a challenge to make sure the
resourses they need are where they need to be since they are assigned by
port.

Ahmad, we use vlans in our LAN because we want to have staff and student
personel seperated (as well as staff from staff!). They can still plug in to
the same switch in a closet, but we can seperate them by assigning them to
different vlans and only allow certain vlans access to other vlans (VACLs)
for security reasons.

I think you can get the idea by the posts. I can't think of any reason to
even use vlans if you were only creating and using them on the switch...
anyone else?
