the reason for this is that the flash is not formatted properly.
A tftpdnld will sort this out, if the router supports it.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to rig up a complete Cisco 4500 from a bunch of spares.
I did not have any flash and used the flash from a defunct 4000. I
get the following message

System Bootstrap, Version 5.2(7) [rchiao 7], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright (c) 1994 by cisco Systems, Inc.
C4500 processor with 32768 Kbytes of main memory

device does not contain a valid magic number
boot: cannot open "bootflash:"
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "bootflash:"

System Bootstrap, Version 5.2(7) [rchiao 7], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

C4500 processor with 32768 Kbytes of main memory

How can I proceed from here and download an image for the 4500 from a tftp
server?

Thanks a lot

Rgds

Srikanth
