Assuming you mean NETBios over TCP/IP, and your design requirements don't
require it to be bridged, routing it will be fine. Token-ring and Ethernet
operate at layer 2, but routing disassembles packets up to Layer 3, so
moving across different media types is not a problem. Large NETBios
packets will be fragmented because of differences in the MTU,
(TR-4096,Eth-15xx) and this may cause some applications to perform
erratically or run more slowly, but that is expected during a migration.

Good luck

Subject: NETBios on TokenRing to TCP/IP on Ethernet [7:3780]

Hi ,

During migration, I have the folowing fuctional requirement.

NetBIOS on Token ring needs to be routed over Ethernet using TCP/IP..Is it
possible with Cisco 3640. Do I have to do bridging ...if so I will need to
explicitly limit the TR Frame size to 1024 or so on each terminal(too big
task). Can I do routing of NetBIOS.....if so how..

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Kaushik
