Just to be sure:
You are connecting from one of the 2511 octal cable ends to the console port
of the other routers? Lower cable / end 1 goes to the "east" router? 
When trying to connect for the first time you are using the hostname of the
router i.e. "east" ?
When it says "trying ...." you hit "enter" ?
