Some suggestions: This may be a real problem or a "non-important" issue. If the existing environment is cool and the system is not running hot, it may be simply the sensor. If the fan is consistently turning while the power is supplied, it is cooling the system as designed. However, if the fan is not functioning or periodically stopping, yes there is a "needs to be fixed" issue. >From my experience with Compaq and HP Servers, the sensors do go bad or the sensing circuitry supporting the sensor drifts. As long as our environment was cool and the fans continued to function consistently, I let it go. Using HP TopTools, I would periodically monitor the HP servers, checking the fans. I would first try that opening up the system and use a can of compressed air to clean out the entire system and re-seat all fan connectors. And if the used system is still under "guarantee", exercise your rights. -----Original Message----- From: Allen May [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2001 3:12 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: C3660 Fan Issue [7:5616] I've never seen it on a router but a server did that once. It turned out to be the sensor for fan speed was bad & giving false errors. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Neiberger" To: Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2001 4:32 PM Subject: OT: C3660 Fan Issue [7:5616] > We recently purchased a used 3660 and we get the following entries in > the logs: > > 00:22:33: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 6 had a rotation error reported. > 00:23:03: %FAN-3-FAN_OK: Fan 6 had earlier reported a rotation error. > It is ok now > > This was originally happening just with Fan #6 so we replaced the fan > assembly and we're now seeing it with all fans.
