I'm confused- PVC's are only used in DSL service, when the ISP & the DSL provider (Verizon, Covad, etc.) use ATM (DS3 or OC3) as the trunking technology off the DSLAM (to the ISP's POP). Are you asking this from an End User's standpoint or a Service Provider's ??? The PVC's are usually some made up "non conflicting" block per provider (ISP UNI to the providers NNI & then onto a PNNI network). Some smaller DSL areas, connection using Frame or T-1's as their trunk (after the DSLAM). The user generally has a hybrid Asynchronous connections, running SNAP (no PVC's). I can't remember the RFC, it's 14 something & I always think of Columbus sailing the ocean blue when I try to recall it :o) Am I in the ballpark ???
