Normally, a station that transmitted a data packet would wait for the
packet to return with the A and C bits set to 1, at which point it would
release a new token.

With early token release, the sending station sends a new token
immediately after transmitting the frame without waiting.  There can
still only be one token on the ring, but this speeds things up a little.
 At least I believe this is the concept.
