Moe,

First, are you trying to put more than 1 NIC in the same VLAN? If so, I
don't know why your would want to do that for a firewall unless you are
going to trunk them together. If they are not in the same VLAN, this is
probably a bug in the 4006 code. In any case, probably the quickest and
easiest solution is to change the MAC addresses to be different on the
NIC's. If this is a Sparc box with a QFE card, you can change the MAC
addresses in the boot prom:

1.4..... Using eeprom to make unique quad mac addresses
Switches often have problems not picking up the MAC addresses from
the quad cards on Solaris. The reason for this is that Solaris
by default only uses the system's MAC address so all the interfaces
advertise the same MAC address, this can be a problem if more than
one interface is connected to the same switch. The problem is
corrected by making the quad card use it's own MAC address:
  # eeprom local-mac-address?=true
  And then reboot.

This is taken from:

ww.geocities.com/steven_a_davis/notes/solaris_archive.html;geturl;terms=quad
;lang=en

I found the info by going to http://www.sunhelpdesk.com and searching on
"quad".

Course, if your not using a sparc box, this info is completely irrelevant to
your situation.

Kent

Subject: assign quad ports nic on cat 4006 switch [7:20777]

Hi,

I have the problem connecting quad ports(4 network ports with only one MAC
address)NIC on cisco cat 4006 switch. Cat 4006 refuse to recognize the two
network connection with same MAC address and it shows error state that"
flapping occurs between ...port and ... port. So I cannot connect my
firewall machine to Cat 4006 switch. Last time it works well with legacy
3Com switch. Pls advice me this difficulty.

Regards,
Moe.
