I reported my observations to Cisco. They contacted me, had me do a song and
dance and provide them with some detailed information.

Perhaps we might infer from this just about where the LAB IOS image might
be? ( Given that Cisco claims that anything in their Lab scenarios will work
on a given IOS image. The other inference is that you won't see a
requirement for a BGP default-originate ;-> )

the interesting thing is that the bug appears all the way through 12.1.9 I'm
guessing that other than in CCIE study preparation, BGP on the 25xx platform
does not happen all that much ;->

Subject: Case C010503 - Report a Bug BGP/entering the BGP command
"neighbor a.b.c.d default-originate" causes router to reload. every time

Hi Chuck,

Thank you for all the information provided, indeed we come across with a
software bug which fits our situation.

Bug id: CSCdp26660

Description: Retitled 991028 by aretana

If you configure a bgp neighbor so that you send him a default router using
the "default-originate" option it will reload the router.

The bug was fixed in 12.1.10(1) and above. I did publish 12.1.11 with the
same feature set as the existing image.

I will now close this ticket as the bug matches exactly our problem and I
did publish the new image which is going to work with your existing Ram and
Flash Memory. However if you still need assistance please ring Cisco and ask
them to have this case reopen and it will be re-assigned to an available
engineer. It was a pleasure assisting you and I do wish you all the best for
the future.
