Sam, I haven't logged onto 501 yet. But my guess is it is similar to 506, which I have worked on, and should support same CLI. It supports 3DES as well. It does support 6.x ios I believe. It definitely looks like a good entry level PIX product. I heard that is around $600. I think it is great for learning and implementing in small office.
