Is it true that you must have a Layer 3 switch in order subnet an IP class and have the subnets communicate? I was told that a Layer 3 switch or a router must be used on my network if I am to subnet my address space and have the different subnets be able to communicate. It has been a long time since I have done this and I don't recall.
