Actually, IMHO, the 2901 is the best choice if you're lookng for a switch for your lab. The 2901 uses the same CatOS images as the 5K, and for study purposes, is the exact same thing. The major difference between the 2901 and the 5K is that the 2901 is a fixed config with a Sup and a 12-port 10/100 ethernet blade built-in. If you want the functionality of being able to buy difference blades to use, then get the 5K. If you want it for a ethernet switch that you can do trunking, VLANs, etc, get the 2901. Mike W.
