Do you have any network monitoring station currently? openview can do this.... rrdtool also has scripts for this...
do you mean packets that the router thinks are lost or packets that the router sends, thinks is fine and never hits the endpoint? For granular detail of packet loss, you'll probably need to deploy rmon at each endpoint and watch applications as they talk across the network, rather than looking for random lost packets. For core switches, you'll either have to purchase an rmon license or a NAM. Traffic Director is capable of doing just this.. Ngenious, TD's successor also does this but runs horribly with CW2000 and usually requires it's own server. Of course if these are slow links already, then adding more traffic to tell you you have packet loss is kinda silly.. :) Check out rrdtool and mrtg to grab utilization and interface stats. At least you'll have a best guess and if you suspect packet loss at certain times during the day, you can check it against the utilization. -Patrick >>> "Mike Bernico" 04/03/02 10:06AM >>> I'd also like to get a program like that. We had to write our own, but I'm sure an outside company could do a better job.
