If I understand correctly, I think the answer to this one is 16'. If the rope is attached to the ends of the poles, then the drop of the rope is 20' - 4' = 16'. The rope has total length of 32', the total length is composed of a drop and a horizontal span. So even though the shape of the rope is a parabola, we can just subtract the drop from the total length to get the span.
