Alex Zinin's _Cisco IP Routing_.   Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0201604736;

Reading the RIP RFC itself gives the best description I know of split
horizon within a protocol. As I posted earlier, to understand what
is going on in redistribution "split horizon" is the imposition of
the logical effect of split horizon BETWEEN protocols, not the split
horizon effect OF a specific protocol.

There's a redistribution tutorial by Ron Trunk at CertificationZone,
available to members.

You can also get some insight by reading about Routing Policy
Specification Language and related things (www.radb.net). This is
much deeper, and is more concerned with exterior routing, but
understanding how you specify what is properly called "importing" and
"exporting" routing information among sources is something I found
very helpful. "Redistribution" itself is an awkward word that more
or less means importing, but it's not as precise as describing the
abstract routing protocol behavior with respect to export and import
policy, and the scope of propagation of routing information.
