I agree with Priscilla, the switch will drop the packets if it receives a packet greater than the default mtu size (1500). I faced an issue with MTU size when I configured MPLS. Although I was able to ping the other end, I was not able run any application over the backbone. The problem was with Catalyst 3550 which we were using in the backbone. So we had to increase the mtu size in the switch from the default 1500.
