If the two choices are the old list moderation policy, and the new
one, then I think I'd prefer the old policy. I don't have any desire
to spend time composing a message to the list only to have a chance of
it being rejected, and I think there are a whole lot of others who
feel the same way.

But maybe there's another possibility. What about having two lists, a
regular, old-style one, and another, limited to the top 8 or so of the
best messages of the day?

Some people prefer to communicate via email, some people prefer to use
forums. Each has its advantages. For discussions about Citizendium
right now, I actually prefer email. I find gmail's threading and
labelling systems to be just about as good as forums, and using my
mail client (which happens to be gmail) I can access to threads from
multiple different mailing lists (Citizendium, Wikipedia, Tor, my
local Linux User Group, etc.) all in one place. Using email also fits
in well with the Citizendium principle of being based on real people
using real names. I remember a couple years ago when I had the
opposite opinion though, and much preferred forums, so I fully
understand how opinions can differ.

What'd be great is if the two communications channels could somehow be
integrated. When someone replies to a thread via email, it gets
posted to the forum. When someone posts to the forum, it gets sent
via email. I'm not sure if there is any software out there that
allows this. There sure should be.
