Sometimes son-in-laws are just a Godsend. My son in law build a floor for my
puppy pen that is raised and is attached to 4x4s. Then he covered the floor
with linoleum. Then he cut a hole that fits the whelping nest perfectly and
he dropped the whelping nest into the hole and attached it to the wooden,
linoleum covered flooring with some screws. (It comes with the holes already
in it). The whole thing is just one piece now and very easy to clean. I
cover it with one 36x36 inch incontinent pad, the kind that are made for
beds. This set up works perfectly....mom and babies stay in the nest for
several days. If mom gets warm, she will lay off to the side. Even though the
books say that puppies do not need an external source of heat for very long,
our litters have consistently stayed on the nest for six weeks. Myra Savant
