If she is in active labor for a half hour and no pup, I'm off to the vet stat. The Second pup should come within twenty minutes or so. I she goes much longer between, I act aggressively. The most experience in whelping I have had has been in greyhounds and they are notorious for problems. My cavaliers have been very easy whelpers...Knock on Wood! Greyhounds have huge litters rather regularly...12 to 14 pups is not very unusual. If you know the litter is a large one and it is taking your bitch a long time to have the early pups, it is my opinion that she will only have more trouble as she tires and one does not want to do a section on an exhausted bitch.
