Hi, Winnie,
This is why so many people who give advice on where to get your first
Cavalier say "choose your breeder" rather than "choose your puppy". In
addition to unethical doctoring of certificates, "mandatory testing" can
be gotten around in some cases by simply going to enough specialists to
get the opinion which one wants. A second opinion is one thing; eight
or ten is another.........<G>.
One really can't mandate ethics; I know both clubs have a COE and I
endorse that for the purposes of being able to sanction eggregious
behavior, but I don't honestly believe that anyone who wanted to do
something a bit to the right or left of it took that into consideration.
If one could mandate ethics in this world, I would have far less fears
for my children.
I resigned from CKCSC, USA when I wanted to breed to an AKC dog. I was
tired of my letters and petitions to the BOD being ignored; simply not
answered. Very few took my way of interpretting the COE in their
breeding programs.
There are some guardians of the breed out there but they aren't groups
or clubs. They are singular people with wonderful breeding programs who
have worked long and hard to breed healthy, happy, typey Cavaliers.
Suze (who may breed two to three litters in a year and finds some of the
CKCSC, USA statistics reports on numbers of litters very frightening)
