The sending server isn't guaranteed to be a MX, so any DNS MX or reverse
connection tests would fail.

No matter what solution is put into place, there's going to be problems for some group that they would need to adapt to. There has to be some sensible solution that doesn't involve fifty patches and hacks and sub-scanners...
