I have to disagree with you completely on this issue Steve. I only use ClamAV on my mail server and NOT to protect myself but to ensure that I am not sending malware to unsuspecting Windows users. Although I do agree that tagging messages as scanned and safe is misleading. If tagged messages were treated differently, e.g. do not need to be scanned because they are marked as already scanned, then the bad guys would simply forge tagging.

Checking outgoing mail is pointless.  Why bother?

If I were mailing malware, I'd be sure to mark that it had been scanned,
approved, and was safe to open.
