The first warning that freshclam is reporting ("not synchronized") means that the daily.cvd you had on your mirror was not the latest available. The later errors about being unable to download I cannot diagnose, only guess. But the first time it definitely did connect and get the daily.cvd file from the mirror. It had to do that in order to perform the version check. As you set this up you can run freshclam with -v to get more details and see which steps are succeeding.
