I think Kelly Slone may have got it right. I believe they did use the desktop
version to download the client and got it downloaded fine. It was running the
CCA installer itself where the we had issue. I did a little more research and
found that there are no companies developing any antivirus for RT. Windows RT
does have Windows Defender built in. We will see if those things change.

It will not run any .exe files, only the Surface Pro will have the full Windows
8 OS with the ability to run the .exe files.

Thanks for everyone's incite and response.

Here are the release notes for 4.9.2:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/release_notes/492/492rn.html#wp1309561

About a ΒΌ of the way down, you will find:

Support for Windows 8

Cisco NAC Windows Agent 4.9.2.7 bundled with Cisco NAC Appliance Release 4.9(2)
supports Windows 8 RTM/Pre-release.

In Windows 8 Operating System, the Internet Explorer has two modes, Desktop and
Metro. In the Metro mode, the ActiveX plugins are restricted. You cannot
download NAC Agent in the Metro mode. You must switch to Desktop mode and then
launch Internet Explorer to download NAC Agent.

The same is true for 4.9.1 and ISE. It is because of the way Microsoft has
designed their Tablet version.

The CCA NAC client will not install so I don't believe this is an IE issue.

I'm not sure if this applies, but, IE in Windows RT, the tablet version of
Windows 8, does not allow plugins or Java applets. It has Flash built in and
is updated via Windows Updates. This is by design. We ran into a similar
issue with Cisco's VPN solution. Officially, Windows 8 is not supported by
Cisco. Perhaps they have a similar statement for NAC.

Subject: Windows 8 support and Windows RT

We saw our first Surface like device this week and the CCA client would not run
on it. If you go into system properties on the system, it shows Windows RT not
Window 8. It looks exactly like Windows 8. Has anyone seen/heard anything
about its support?

We are on 4.9.1 and cannot upgrade to the latest because our we are not on the
latest hardware. This was rude awakening last month. We have only had our
current hardware in place for 3 years and had asked this last summer about
continued support for CCA and was told we had nothing to worry about.

Mike,

We are running NAC 4.9.1 (instead of your 4.8.3) and have applied the Windows 8
patch (Patch-CSCud24111-491). NAC can now identify Windows 8 clients, and we
can get them logged in.

Once I downloaded and distributed the patch file on all servers, the actual
installation took about 10 minutes total for 2 CAM and 2 CAS.

Good luck!
