Wow, that's one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

If someone wants to go separate back out the merged comment blocks they
can be my guest.  I'm unwilling to spend any more time on something so
utterly pointless.

It wasn't the 5 bytes that bothered me, it was the extra 2-3 lines.

Indeed.  But at least that could be argued to have some legal purpose.  It
would be impossible to argue that our copyright/license is in any jeopardy
because it exists in one comment instead of two, especially when many
other files (e.g. Makefiles) have them merged.
