hey, folks--
after spending the 3:30-7:30pm span of the day at the events on public
square, i'm here watching the 10:00 news on channel 43's "action news"
newscast, where they did about 2-3 minutes of coverage on events at
public square.
i suspect they'll show the same coverage on channel 8 at 11pm--if you're
online before then and get to watch it, i'm gonna recommend doing so.
the coverage made virtually NO mention of anything OTHER than the
shredding and setting-afire of the effigy/puppet of george bush (which
was done on one of the other quadrants, away from the soldiers and
sailors monument area where most of us were); the day's events downtown
were characterized as acts of raging maniacs out of control taking to
the streets.
i was so appalled to see this misrepresentation that i called immediately
to voice my disappointment. if you get a chance to check it out (and
happen to agree with my observations), maybe you oughtta call too......it
seems a shame to have had so many thoughtful, beautiful, transformative
things going on and have the news desk irresponsibly ignore those
actions, IMNSHO.
in the meantime: CONGRATULATIONS to all who made today's events truly
non-violent, peaceful and transformative. i am proud to have stood with
you.
