Below is a compilation of responses I got from my e-mail yesterday, and I just don't have the energy to respond to all of these right now. I know that it will boil my skin all day until I do... just not right now.

It's just soo hard to have to fight this argument on both sides, both the government AND the people who support them. This is the biggest ordeal that we must face, I believe.

Why don't these people even bother to make arguments? I get a lot of knee-jerk "unpatriotic" and "spoiled" comments, with little to no rebuttle of the actual situation. And I don't understand some of the comments that seem to say "if you care so much why don't you actually do something like run for office instead of just e-mailing people and whining." I'm sorry, I guess I figured that in a true democracy if you can change the minds of the citizens, you thereby change the government they put into office.

Sometimes I wonder why I want to improve this country when most of the citizens are the reason it's so f***ed up.

Despondently yours,
Brian Douglas

Hello Thurma,

I respect your opinion. I welcome any opinion you, Brian or any one may
have. The only thing with voicing an opinion is be ready for rebuttal.

As far as getting upset, I'm not upset. I'm a little disappointed in some
of Brian's views but not upset. I'd like to hear more of his opinion's
especially religiously.

I fear for Brian, I may be speaking out of turn, but from what I hear in
some of his comments, his faith or belief in God is not very strong. I
would like to, at the very least, invite Brian to do as much research in to
God as he has in finding fault with our government.

Love Mike

Hello Brian,

I felt compelled to forward this on to you.  It's just another opinion that we are able to express thanks to the "Land of the Free".

Hi Mike,

Thanks for sharing a more complete view of what this young man is like.  All I can say is...

Wow - this kid is warped!  He claims to know so much and research all the angles.  HOWEVER, he doesn't seem to know that military personnell are prohibited from engaging in political affairs.  You have to choose to be a politician OR a member of the armed forces that serves your country without question or argument.  When you serve your country, you don't pick and choose which things you feel favorable towards.  You make an ultimate sacrifice and pledge an oath to your president and leaders.  You trust that America is governed properly and you give yourself up to the proud machine we trust to protect us (yes, our "troops").  This young idiot should try to provide selfless civic duty before he judges our servicemen (and the little reminders that they surround themselves with).  He's obviously so spoiled and self-absorbed that he will only work harder to prove his point than try to see what millions of American servicemen and women sacrifice to keep his country cozy.  Thank the good Lord that he lives in the USA where disagreeing with your military DOESN'T come with a death sentence.  He would most likely shrug off  how easy his life is - no starvation or poverty directly affects him.  No affliction he encounters in his entire lifetime will compare with what most others on our earth deal with on a daily basis.  Maybe he should research some pictures of what biological weapons do to people.  If you've seen what I've seen from simple training videos, it's scary!  These are the kinds of things we are fighting against.  Terrorists are well on their way to providing America with more than milk and cookies!

Of course, there's another set of comments I'd like to give him on the God thing.  Obviously, this boy doesn't know the Word or the Savior. Officially appoint him to be the accuser of your faith because he doesn't know any different.  I'll leave it at that.

If you think my opinion would interest him, feel free to share it with him.  Since he is so sure of himself, I'm certain he'll come up with something interesting, albeit misinformed and ignorant(with all his experience and life-application I'm sure).

One PROUD Veteran of the United States Air Force
AND supporter of our FREEDOM, provided by our TROOPS!
Michelle

Mike,

Very well stated, I agree that none of us can change what is happening now.
My only hope is that this will open everyone's eye's to the fact the United
States will not roll over and be trampled on.

Many innocent people have died from "terrorists" attacks in the US and other
countries. I feel bad for the innocent people that are perishing but, this
could be happening in our own back yard and I for one know that I prefer
that it not be.

Each night I pray for our men and women overseas who are defending what they
may or may not believe in. I also pray for those that are caught in the
"cross fire" and wish that they lived some where else. Remember that Saddam
Hussein is using the "innocent" as shields for his soldiers, how can he live
with himself? I'm sure many will disagree but I for one don't think that
this is a characteristic I would be proud of.

Keep the faith!

Joy

Hello Brian,

You are more than welcome to your opinion, that's what this country was built on.  My concern with your views and actions are that all you're doing is causing more upheaval.  Have you ever tried looking for the positive in a situation?

If you have a problem with our government then do something other than sending e-mail expressing your opinion.  No one likes war, the fact is we are fighting a war and after September 11 we will always be fighting a war.  Have you forgotten the pain everyone went through on September 11, our country vowed to abolish terrorism and all who harbor terrorist.  If you did not like this decision you should have made plans to move to a different country or start your political campaign to make a change.

You did NOTHING.

So now when your country needs to come together and unite as one and support our troops, (whether you agree or disagree with the cause) all you try to do is bash our government for being there.  We are already there, there is nothing you can do to change this now.  You had your chance but you did NOTHING.  I already know your going to say that there's no way you could have changed anything, maybe your right maybe your wrong.  Again we'll never know because you did NOTHING.

How dare you try to bring Christian belief's into this, I am proud to be a Christian.  I don't claim to be a perfect Christian I don't know what Jesus would do in this situation but I do know He created our leaders and all we can do is pray that they follow His guidance.  If your religious belief's are different in regards to God almighty being our creator, then I pray for you as well.

Prayerfully for you and our country,
Your Uncle Mike

Hi Brian,

First, Saddam broke the treaty, so this means that the current action is
actually part 2 of the 1st Gulf War. Second, the UN passed several
resolutions over the past 11 years threatening Saddam with force if he
didn't comply. The US and the coalition forces are the only UN member
states willing to adhere to those resolutions. Which part of that do
you not understand? You feel betrayed? I feel betrayed by the UN,
France, Germany, and ignorant people like you that believe everything
they see on TV and really do not understand the issues at hand. Free
speech is great, but some people just don't know when to keep their big
mouth shut.

You opened yourself up to this. No one told you to spout your venom.
Mike is patriotic, I can vouch for that. But people that cannot let a
little patriotism go by without getting out their verbal gun out and
taking pot shots at those standing up for their country, well, just don't
try and sell what you are doing as patriotism.

For Pete's sake, just ask Mike to quit sending you patriotic email!
Then you can go back to absorbing whatever crap you've been exposed to.

Best,
Tom

Well, at least this president didn't flee to Canada to avoid the draft like
the last one we had.
