The brute force is to set
CFLAGS="-mpreferred-stack-boundary=8 -O2"
But I guess there must be a "more correct" way.

Well,
the 'brute force' doesn't work either - checked already. The last
command looks like:
gcc -O2 -mpreferred-stack-boundary=8 <more_options>
-mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 <rest_of_command>
I'm trying to figure out from where comes this switch, so it's
ignoring the options given by me.
