Hi, sounds like it's the mdev problem(failed to create devices), I created the 
neccessary devices under /dev, and disable these lines in /etc/rc.d/starup:

/bin/mount -t proc none /proc
/bin/mount -t sysfs none /sys
# /bin/mount -t tmpfs -o mode=0755 none /dev
# /bin/mkdir /dev/pts
# /bin/mkdir /dev/shm
# /bin/echo "/sbin/mdev" > /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug
# /sbin/mdev -s

and solve the orignal problem, what's the matter with mdev? I've fellow 
section 10.3:  10.3. Configure mdev exactly..
